Age of Conan Guide - Tortage Starter Guide

At the start, there is not much of choice to get into the game. Just run through the tutorial area, completing it as soon as possible. There are two treasure chests that I do grab to get something to wear. The first is right at the very beginning; after you save the girl take the first left; it is at the end of a very short road after you kill a mini-boss. The second is after you drop the ape boss, take a right, and after killing two more apes, there is another treasure chest. (This is near the exit of the area)

As soon as you get into Tortage, jump into “night” mode. (This is inside the tavern) Do all the quests until you run out. At this point, you should be about level 9.

A couple of quests stand out. First off, you get to theirs and get some extra karma. This is not needed, but it is a little handy. Next, there is a quest that needs to be done by the right person to the left of the tavern. This is really the only miss that you will have in Tortage. Once you have done all the quests, you can get a quest from your party leader that is up the road. You will run into the keep in the middle of the village on your own, but it is a fairly short distance.

Once you enter the keep, you will be on your route to kill the earth. Both of these are near the entrance to the keep. Both are caster level 17 but are easy to kill. They will drop a couple of greens, a blue weapon, a rune blade, staves that drop from them, and sometimes wizard weaves or boots. Do not try to pick up the treasure chests inside the keep. Three chests hold money, romanced armor, and a couple of rune blades. The blue weapon is towards the left of the keep.

There is a shop near the entrance to the keep. You will want to stay there and buy everything you do not need for yourself. This includes weapons, armor, unguents, Songs forestall, and caltrops once you have purchased them from the shop. If you have a party then there will also be a quest for them that is nearby.

Once you have purchased anything, you will need to “empower” it. To empower it, look at the weapon box and right-click on the weapon. The screen will pop up, and you will be able to power up the weapon. Every level will come with a new weapon, and you will need to purchase the old ones as you go. If your level reaches the top of the screen, you will no longer need to purchase any more items. If you want to know why some items are priced higher than others, look at the prices that others have sold for. If the others have charged exactly the same price then it is not special to buy yours. If you see someone selling a very expensive weapon, then buying it is probably a good idea.

Now you are ready to go to your starting point. You are in your starting town proper and begin to pick up quests. You will need to go to the class trainer in order to pick a profession. The trainer will allow you to pick from among the four starter professions. Once you pick a profession, you will need to go to the trainer and purchase the skill from him. To pay for the skill, the easiest is just to purchase the skill from him, but if you have heaps of money, then you should buy the skill from a vendor.

Some of the items that you will need to bring with you are; Shaman Puzzle Boxes, Artists Puzzles, Actua Scries glasses, Keys to the City, Coins, Fishing Reels, and Guides. If you do not bring any of these items, you will need to get them as the game allows up to seven items of each type to be carried by the character.

Once you have picked a city, then it is a good idea to get to know the quests that are available. Once you have done all of the quests required from a certain area, it is time to move on. Do not worry about picking up the incorrect quest. Most of the quests are done in the same area. You should now be on your way to the closest city.

Once you get to the closest city then, you should sell all of your quest items and anything else that you have come to collect. Take everything to the mailbox and then destroy the items that you do not need. By doing this, you will have a nice stockpile of gold ready to be handed out to you when the handout comes due.

This is a fun and easy way to begin making gold. All you need to do is complete the quests and then get out there and start selling!
