The decision was made in preparation for new EU regulations that will take effect in February 2027. These regulations require manufacturers to ensure batteries in devices are easily replaceable. In the current version, the battery is glued to the console. In Japan, Nintendo's latest console will be sold with its current specifications. The Switch 2's lithium-ion batteries are typically replaced at authorized service centers. Nintendo does not recommend replacing the batteries themselves.
