Fortnite Gets AI Version of Darth Vader Voiced by James Earl Jones

Epic Games’ free-to-play battle royale Fortnite is ramping up its Star Wars-inspired Galactic Assault season, with a new update adding Darth Vader.

Vader appears in the video game as a boss on the map. If he is defeated, the character will become available as a partner and will become a member of the squad. After that, you can communicate with him via voice chat.

The iconic character is voiced by actor James Earl Jones from the original trilogy. Before his death in 2024, he signed a deal with Disney to use the digital copy in Disney and Star Wars projects. According to his family, the actor considered him an integral part of the franchise and wanted to give it to fans of all ages.

To recreate the voice, the developers of the largest battle royale used ElevenLabs technology and Google’s Gemini neural network to analyze player lines and generate responses.

Fortnite is out now on PC (EGS), PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, Nintendo Switch, and Android. The iOS version is temporarily unavailable worldwide as a result of Apple blocking Epic’s bid to return the game to the US App Store.
