Nvidia Confirms Existence of Defective GeForce RTX 5090 and GeForce RTX 5070 Ti on Defective Chips

Nvidia has confirmed the issue with missing ROPs. The company noted that the problem affects not only the flagship GeForce RTX 5090 and GeForce RTX 5090D, but also the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti. Interestingly, users have not yet complained about the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti with missing ROPs.

Earlier, it was reported that some owners of GeForce RTX 5090/RTX 5090D graphics cards from Zotac, MSI, Gigabyte and Manli complained that their accelerators’ GPUs lack rasterization units. Instead of the required 176 ROPs, their cards have only 168 of these units. Since ROPs are one of the key components of a graphics card, their absence negatively affects the GPU’s performance.

Given how scarce the supply of RTX 50 GPUs is, users of defective accelerators will have to wait a long time for a replacement. In addition, there are only a few GeForce RTX 50 graphics cards on the market, so it is difficult to pinpoint the exact number of GPUs that are missing the ROP.
