The Epic Games Store’s string of New Year’s gifts continues. Following Skald: Against the Black Priory, the promising puzzle game Viewfinder from Scottish studio Sad Owl Studios has become temporarily free on the Epic Games digital store.
Viewfinder is a unique, single-player, first-person puzzle adventure where you solve problems by manipulating reality using photographs. The player is equipped with a special Polaroid camera: you can take photos and then embed images from photos, drawings, screenshots, or postcards directly into the game world as fully-fledged 3D objects. These “photographic” structures create new geometry, open passages, solve puzzles, and allow you to progress through levels.
Viewfinder debuted in July 2023 on PC and PS5, and subsequently arrived on PS4 (December 2023), Xbox Series X and S (August 2025), and Nintendo Switch (December 2025). The game has an 81-84% Metacritic score.
The Viewfinder giveaway on the Epic Games Store will last exactly 24 hours and end December 30th. The next game to be temporarily free is being kept secret until the very end.
