The gaming industry has seen plenty of successful launches, but GTA VI is setting a remarkable benchmark before players have even had the chance to explore Vice City.

According to estimates from analytics firm Sensor Tower, reported on November 3–4, 2026, the game has accumulated approximately 7.71 million digital pre-orders across PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, generating an estimated $751 million in revenue.

These figures are not officially confirmed by Rockstar Games or its parent company, Take-Two Interactive. Nevertheless, they offer a striking indication of the demand surrounding one of the most anticipated video games in history.

PlayStation accounts for the majority of GTA VI pre-orders

The platform breakdown reveals a considerable advantage for Sony’s console.

According to the reported estimates, approximately 74% of digital pre-orders came from PlayStation 5, while Xbox Series X|S accounted for the remaining 26%.

In financial terms, that translates to roughly:

  • PlayStation 5: $559 million from 5.74 million pre-orders.
  • Xbox Series X|S: $192 million from 1.97 million pre-orders.
  • Total: $751 million from approximately 7.71 million copies.

The figures suggest that PlayStation players currently represent the largest share of early GTA VI buyers.

More than $100 million in additional revenue in just two weeks

Perhaps even more impressive is the speed at which the numbers have grown.

Earlier estimates placed GTA VI’s digital pre-order revenue at approximately $630 million in October. By early November, the figure had climbed to around $751 million.

That represents an estimated increase of $121 million in roughly two weeks.

It is a significant result for a game that has yet to reach its official release date.

Could GTA VI reach $1 billion before launch?

With estimated pre-order revenue already exceeding three-quarters of a billion dollars, the next obvious milestone is $1 billion.

Whether Rockstar can reach that figure before release remains uncertain. The current numbers are based on third-party tracking rather than official financial disclosures, and pre-orders can also be cancelled.

However, the commercial expectations surrounding GTA VI extend far beyond its pre-launch performance.

Industry analysts have previously projected billions of dollars in sales during the game’s opening week. Newzoo, for example, published a July 2026 analysis estimating potential launch-week revenue of between $3.3 billion and $5.2 billion, depending on the sales scenario.

These are projections, not guaranteed results, but they illustrate the scale of expectations surrounding Rockstar’s next major release.

A blockbuster before it even hits the shelves

GTA VI is more than another major video game launch. It represents the return of a franchise that has remained commercially relevant for more than a decade.

Its predecessor, Grand Theft Auto V, has sold over 230 million copies worldwide since its debut in 2013, according to Take-Two Interactive.

That legacy helps explain why anticipation for the next instalment has reached such extraordinary levels.

For Rockstar Games, the real challenge will be turning unprecedented pre-launch excitement into long-term success. But with an estimated $751 million already generated through digital pre-orders, GTA VI is entering its launch period from an exceptionally strong commercial position.
