Independent developer Polydin Studio has released the first gameplay teaser for Black Lake, an upcoming first-person survival horror game that combines psychological tension, supernatural threats, and a disturbing setting. The footage, published around Halloween, offers an early look at the abandoned orphanage where much of the story takes place.
A mysterious orphanage surrounded by darkness
In Black Lake, players follow Elena, a young woman who returns to the orphanage where she grew up after receiving a message from her missing twin sister, Rita.
However, the building is far from empty. Strange sounds echo through its corridors, mysterious figures appear in the darkness, and the remains of a forbidden ritual point to the disappearance of several children years earlier.
The orphanage itself is surrounded by an endless black ocean, creating an isolated and unsettling atmosphere that plays a central role in the game’s horror experience.

Smartphone mechanics and survival gameplay
The gameplay teaser highlights several mechanics that distinguish Black Lake from traditional first-person horror games.
Elena can use her smartphone to detect supernatural entities and uncover hidden clues that are invisible to the naked eye. However, battery management is essential, as the device can become one of her most important survival tools.
Players will also need to explore flooded corridors, abandoned classrooms, underground passages, and forgotten chapels while relying on stealth and environmental awareness to avoid hostile creatures.
A revolver provides limited protection, but it cannot permanently eliminate the monsters. Candles can also be used to establish temporary safe areas where players can recover and manage resources.
Release window and platforms
Developed using Unreal Engine 5, Black Lake is planned for release in Winter 2027. The game is in development for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
Although the first gameplay teaser focuses primarily on atmosphere and exploration, it provides a clearer idea of the project’s visual direction and survival mechanics.
With its unusual setting, supernatural storytelling, and smartphone-based detection system, Black Lakecould become an interesting addition to the upcoming survival horror lineup. The game is already available to wishlist on Steam.
