Battlefield 6 has become the best-selling game of 2025 in the US, according to Matt Piscatella, senior director and video game industry consultant at analytics firm Circana.
It’s the first game in Electronic Arts’ Battlefield series to achieve this feat.
Battlefield 6 topped the US gaming bestseller list for 2025. Over the 12 months, the action game became the most popular premium release on PC and Xbox, and took second place on PlayStation (behind NBA 2K26).
Meanwhile, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 finished only fifth in 2025 (despite being the leader in December, see image below), behind Battlefield 6, NBA 2K26, Borderlands 4, and Monster Hunter Wilds.
It’s worth noting that Battlefield 6 was released six weeks before Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and, unlike its competitor, was not available for free at launch (or subsequently) to Game Pass subscribers.
Black Ops 7’s fifth place is Call of Duty’s worst showing since 2008, when Call of Duty: World at War finished sixth amid the Nintendo Wii craze. Since then, Call of Duty games have regularly become top-selling titles in the US.
Spending on gaming hardware also increased in December, up 6% year-on-year to reach $1.2 billion. The Nintendo Switch 2 led sales, with the PlayStation 5 coming in second.
