Publisher Dotemu, in collaboration with Guard Crush Games and animation studio Supamonks, has released the beat-em-up Absolum. The announcement was made in a press release. The game is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch.

The game was Dotemu’s first release in the original universe and is a mix of classic beat ’em up and modern roguelike with a deep storyline and the spirit of legendary fantasy arcades of the past.

The game takes place in the world of Talam, where magic is banned following a devastating cataclysm. The Sun King, Azra, has used this to tighten his grip on the country, but his regime is now being challenged by a group of rebels.

The elven warrior Galandra, the sturdy dwarf Karl, the magically gifted moulai Brom (a humanoid frog), and the mysterious human-machine hybrid, Syder, are recruited to fight Azra’s tyranny.

The game’s music was composed by Gareth Cocker (Ori), Mick Gordon (DOOM), and Yuki Kitamura (Dark Souls). At the time of publication, Absolum has a Metacritic score of 86.
