Minecraft-Inspired Sandbox Hytale To Sell For $20 In Standard Edition

Hypixel Studios announced that the cube-based sandbox Hytale will cost $20. This will be the standard edition, but those wishing to support the game during Early Access will be able to purchase the Supporter ($35) and Cursebreaker ($70, a subtle reference to Hytale’s unexpected rescue from closure). These bundles will include cloaks, hats, and other cosmetic content.

Hypixel co-founder Simon Collins-Laflamme, who saved the studio and Hytale from closure, explained that he tried to set an aggressive but fair price: the game is unfinished and is running on a four-year-old build.

“Asking for more seemed wrong. I don’t think the game is good yet. The team and I will strive to make it good, then great. <…> I want as many players as possible to try it,” Collins-Laflamme assured.

As a reminder, Riot Games canceled the game in June and disbanded Hypixel, but Collins-Laflamme used his personal funds to purchase Hytale’s intellectual property from Riot, reassembled the team, and resumed development.

Unfortunately, Hytale’s Early Access release date has yet to be announced. However, it should be revealed soon. According to NoesisGUI, which is helping develop the sandbox interface, it’s only “a matter of weeks.”
