Sony Shuts Down Concord Developers

Sony Shuts Down Concord Developers

Gaming
Sony has decided to close Firewalk Studios, the developer of the infamous multiplayer game Concord. PlayStation studio business group CEO Herman Hulst announced this in a letter to employees. Along with Firewalk, mobile games studio Neon Koi will also close. Let's recall that on August 23, Firewalk released Concord on PC and PS5. The game did not attract enough attention from players, and just two weeks later Sony shut down the project's servers and refunded all buyers. At that time, Concord still had a chance to be relaunched, but, as SIE co-head Hermen Hulst now reports, "after much deliberation" it was decided to finally bury the game, and at the same time close the studio. Well-known insider Jason Schreier reported that 172 people lost their jobs due to the studio's closure. But ...

Half-Life fans are preparing a surprise for the game's 20th anniversary - the release of Half-Life 2 Beta: Mega Build, which is scheduled for November 16, 2024. This version is based on leaks from 2003, when German hacker Axel Gembe stole a beta version of the game from Valve. The new build will offer over 1,000 restored textures, character models (including those from 2000-2002) and items, content from recent leaks, including cut mechanics, locations and enemies. Valve Corrects Team Fortress 2 Scout’s Pants Color 17 Years Later

Gaming
Generally, bugs in games are fixed as quickly as possible, but sometimes the mistakes made elude developers for years. That's what's been happening with Valve and its team shooter Team Fortress 2 for the past 17 years. The developers changed the color of the Scout's pants when he plays for the blue team. Due to a graphical bug that happened 17 years ago, his pants were beige, as if he still plays for the red team. In a recent patch, his pants became dark blue, as they should be. However, after 17 hours, Valve rolled back the fix. The studio explained this by technical problems, saying that the blue pants conflict with the character skins. Team Fortress 2 was released in October 2007 and became free-to-play in June 2011. In April 2024, the game received 64-bit support, an update th...

What Remains of Edith Finch Creators Are Preparing Unusual Game

Gaming
In 2017, Giant Sparrow released the emotional What Remains of Edith Finch, which was very popular with players, and the studio was expected to release its next game. And now, finally, it has shown concept art of the future project. Its main focus will be “exploring the wonders and horrors of biology.” Players will play as a field biologist studying urban wildlife, both mundane and fantastical.  Sources of inspiration include Ico, Windosill, Spirited Away, David Attenborough documentaries, and the spirit of animation pioneers like Winsor McCay and Walt Disney, who used cutting-edge technology for their time to create work that felt eerily alive. Interestingly, the project has become noticeably darker over time, just like What Remains of Edith Finch did in its day.
