Last year’s release of Massive Entertainment’s open-world action-adventure Star Wars Outlaws left Ubisoft more disappointed than excited, and it appears the French publisher has decided not to release a sequel.

Star Wars Outlaws failed to reach the necessary figures and did not meet Ubisoft’s expectations. The game sold 1 million copies in its first month on the market.

The insider notes that Star Wars Outlaws 2 did not even have time to go into full production. A sequel was indeed in the company’s plans, but Ubisoft decided not to continue development, relying on the modest sales of the original.

Earlier, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot noted that the Star Wars brand was in “difficult waters” at the time of release: its popularity had declined, and this could have affected the game’s sales.

The game earned 75-76% from critics and “mostly positive” reviews (rating 73%) from Steam users. The project’s peak online on Valve’s platform reached 3,397 people, which turned out to be a weak result even by Ubisoft’s standards on Steam
