Valve Launches Beta of Updated Steam

Valve is preparing a major Steam update with a menu redesign for release – it is currently being tested in the beta version of the client. The company announced this on its website, where it also shared details about the update.

First, Valve has combined the left column and blue menu bar, creating a more cohesive and organized space for the most important links. This menu and search box are now available on more pages in the store. Second, the developers have “taken search to the next level.” The bar now offers several additional options (see image below), including:

  • what other users often search for;
  • the ability to return to recently viewed game pages;
  • the ability to search by categories/tags, publishers, etc.;
  • a link to an advanced search with more filtering options.

Third, access to popular sections has been simplified. The Browse tab on the store’s main page includes a variety of options for searching games by popularity, release date, price, and discounts.

It is not yet known when the update will be released for all Steam users.
