Credit: Valve Valve has published complete CAD files, specifications, a materials list, and a video tutorial for the Inkterface e-ink faceplate for the Steam Machine. This information will help users print and assemble their own e-ink faceplate. Valve unveiled the Inkterface front panel during its Steam Machine reveal last year. At the time, Valve stated that the display accessory was not intended for retail sale. The standard Steam Machine uses a magnetic front panel that requires no tools to install or remove. Valve stated that it plans to release the files for users and third-party developers to create their own panels. The build involves using a 5.83-inch Adafruit E Ink display, and Bluetooth connectivity is provided via an ESP32-based board. Users must 3D print the front pane...

Credit: steamdeck.com Valve has released the SteamOS 3.8.0 Preview update, which includes major changes to the Arch Linux-based operating system used in the Steam Deck and Lenovo Legion Go S. With the release of SteamOS 3.8, Valve's Steam Deck gained a full hibernation mode and "power reduction at the expense of memory," although this currently only applies to the LCD version. Some Windows-based portable consoles last longer in sleep mode than the Steam Deck because they hibernate to save power, while Valve's Steam Deck offers an instant-on mode. Game Mode now includes a setting that allows you to use the microphone on a Bluetooth headset, and the LCD version of the Steam Deck now features Bluetooth wake-up—you can turn on the device while connected to a TV using a wireless controlle...

Steam Deck Portable Console Is No Longer Available Globally

Credit: Valve The Steam Deck gaming console is no longer available on Valve's online store, not just in the US. The shortage has become global. If you visit the company's website in Europe, the US, Canada, or Japan, the console is nowhere to be found. The reason is the same: memory shortage. Steam Deck availability was limited in the US and parts of Asia in the first half of February, after which Valve was forced to acknowledge the limited availability of RAM and solid-state memory for the consoles. Canada and Europe have joined the list of regions where Steam Deck is difficult to find. According to Tom's Hardware, the console is currently available in Australia, the UK, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and South Korea. However, the limited availability was also impacted by the discontinuati...

Credit: Valve Valve is preparing a major Steam update with a menu redesign for release - it is currently being tested in the beta version of the client. The company announced this on its website, where it also shared details about the update. First, Valve has combined the left column and blue menu bar, creating a more cohesive and organized space for the most important links. This menu and search box are now available on more pages in the store. Second, the developers have “taken search to the next level.” The bar now offers several additional options (see image below), including: what other users often search for; the ability to return to recently viewed game pages; the ability to search by categories/tags, publishers, etc.; a link to an advanced search with more filter...
