AMD Promises Gamers’ Security Amid DRAM Shortage

AMD is committed to making its Radeon graphics cards affordable to everyday consumers, not just wealthy enthusiasts. With graphics card prices already spiraling out of control due to the DRAM shortage, Ryzen and Radeon VP and GM David McAfee stated in a recent interview with Gizmodo that AMD intends to keep price increases within reasonable limits.

According to McAfee, AMD has built long-term relationships with DRAM suppliers to ensure a stable supply of memory for Radeon graphics cards. The company also continues to work with its AIC partners to maintain competitive prices, but the current shortage makes it increasingly difficult to fully contain cost increases. Meanwhile, prices for Nvidia GeForce RTX 50-series (Blackwell) graphics cards have already skyrocketed, a situation that could play to AMD’s advantage. The company could recapture market share if it can keep price increases moderate, despite the RDNA 4 architecture not yet being a response to Nvidia’s top-end solutions like the GeForce RTX 5080 and above.

The Radeon RX 9000 series has already seen a 10-17% price increase. The flagship Radeon RX 9070 XT saw the largest increase, up 17%. The Radeon RX 9060 XT with 8 GB of memory increased by 10%, while the RX 9060 XT with 16 GB of memory fell in between, with a 14% price increase due to the doubled video memory capacity compared to the base model.
