Almost two months ago, on May 21st, the psychedelic RPG Zero Parades: For Dead Spies from London-based ZA/UM was released.
In 2019, the studio released the cult detective game Disco Elysium, but its spiritual successor failed to gain public traction. The result was modest sales and the news of staff layoffs.
According to an official statement, up to 32 employees from various divisions of the company have received layoff notices or notices of possible layoffs. ZA/UM emphasized that each of them made significant contributions to both the development of ZERO PARADES: For Dead Spies and the studio’s overall growth.
The developers also noted that they engaged with representatives of the ZA/UM Workers’ Alliance throughout the process, striving to implement the restructuring in partnership with employees.
Despite the staff reductions, the studio assures that it is not abandoning its creative ambitions.
“These changes alter the scope of ZA/UM, but not its purpose. Our artistic standards remain unchanged – we will continue to work.”
