FromSoftware has temporarily disabled the multiplayer servers for Dark Souls II and Dark Souls III following the discovery of an unspecified technical issue. The shutdown was announced on October 30, 2026, with the developer confirming that online services would remain unavailable until further notice.
According to the official player support announcement, the issue affects all supported platforms. However, FromSoftware has not explained what went wrong or how long the investigation might take.
Dark Souls multiplayer features are currently unavailable
The unexpected shutdown means players can no longer access several online features that have been part of the Dark Souls experience for years.
Co-op summoning, PvP invasions, player messages, bloodstains and the familiar ghostly appearances of other players are among the features affected by the outage.
Fortunately, both games remain playable offline. Players can still explore their worlds, fight bosses and progress through the single-player campaigns without an active server connection.
A familiar problem for Dark Souls fans
The latest shutdown is particularly concerning for longtime fans because the franchise experienced a major online outage back in 2022.
At that time, FromSoftware disabled the PC servers for several Dark Souls games while investigating serious security vulnerabilities. Restoring online functionality took months, with Dark Souls III returning in August 2022 and Dark Souls II following in October.
There is currently no confirmation that the latest incident is related to a security vulnerability. FromSoftware has only referred to a technical problem with its game servers.
When will Dark Souls 2 and 3 servers return?
For now, there is no confirmed timeline for the restoration of Dark Souls II and Dark Souls III multiplayer.
FromSoftware says it will provide another announcement once information about the server recovery schedule becomes available.
Until then, players will have to continue their adventures alone. For a franchise where unexpected invasions, helpful messages and cooperative boss fights are such an important part of the experience, the temporary loss of online functionality is a significant disruption.
Fans will be hoping this outage is resolved much faster than the lengthy shutdown that affected the series in 2022.
