Capcom Plans To Reschedule The Release Of ‘Onimusha: Way of the Sword’

Capcom appears to be considering changing the release date of Onimusha: Way of the Sword. According to information from Canadian retailer PNP Games, the game could release as early as September 4th, instead of the previously announced end-of-month release window.

As a reminder, ‘Onimusha: Way of the Sword’ was unveiled at The Game Awards 2024 with a planned 2026 release, but it received a specific launch date—September 25—during the June State of Play showcase.

However, as noted by the blogger Cheap Ass Gamer, the Canadian online retailer PNP Games—which has opened pre-orders for ‘Onimusha: Way of the Sword’—lists the game’s release date as September 4.

Information on the PNP Games website suggests that ‘Onimusha: Way of the Sword’ will be released three weeks earlier than promised. Capcom has set such a precedent before—specifically this year, when the release of ‘Pragmata’ was moved from April 24 to April 17.

It is also worth noting that PNP Games has previously been a source of inaccurate information regarding the release date of an upcoming game (in that instance, it was ‘Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition’ for the Switch 2), so details from the retailer should be treated with caution.

If the information is confirmed, ‘Onimusha: Way of the Sword* will avoid direct competition with ‘Control Resonant’ and ‘Silent Hill: Townfall’ which are scheduled for release on September 24–25. However, the new release window is hardly clear either: the action-RPG ‘The Blood of Dawnwalker’ from studio Rebel Wolves is set to hit the market as early as September 3.
