At the State of Play presentation, Santa Monica Studios announced God of War: Laufey, a new game set in the God of War universe. Along with a lengthy 24-minute trailer, the developers also shared the first details of the action game, which will star Faye, Kratos’s second wife and Atreus’s mother.

God of War Laufey takes place in the afterlife of the gods, Everywhen, where Faye, the wife of the aggressive Spartan Kratos and mother of Atreus from the Norse saga God of War, finds herself after death.

In the story, Faye discovers that her plans to protect Kratos and Atreus are in jeopardy. To save them, the heroine must fight her way through Everywhen, a world torn apart by a war for power between ruthless gods from different mythologies.

God of War Laufey is being developed exclusively for PS5. It promises a combat system combining elements of the old and new, a talking sword as a weapon, and the powerful magic of giants, which Faye can use to knock the spirits out of her enemies.

God of War: Laufey doesn’t yet have a release date—the developers haven’t even announced a release year. According to respected journalist Jason Schreier, we won’t have long to wait. Before the announcement, leaks suggested the project would be released as early as spring 2027.
