Canadian studio Hinterland’s head, Raphael van Lierop, discussed the future development of the survival simulator The Long Dark and plans for its sequel, Blackfrost: The Long Dark 2.
Blackfrost gameplay is planned to be revealed before the end of the year, after which the community will be actively updated on the title’s status. The studio is currently receiving offers from various publishers and is considering them, but has not yet found a suitable partner.
In the current climate, the studio will continue to actively support The Long Dark. The game, whose main story is now complete, will receive new expansions. The developers are not yet ready to discuss them in detail, but they have shared a couple of screenshots.
The team will also continue to support and improve the fan-favorite Survival mode, adding regions from Episode V and much more.

The add-ons will expand The Long Dark in innovative ways (see teasers below), will cost more than usual, and will potentially bypass PS4, Xbox One, and Switch—85% of the game’s console audience has already migrated to the current consoles.
