The hit open-world crime action game GTA V, developed by the British studio Rockstar Games (owned by Take-Two Interactive), received an unofficial browser-based version 13 years after its release—but lost it almost immediately.
After its launch, PlayGTA5.com initially displayed a Cloudflare 1014 error, and the site’s content was subsequently replaced with vintage 1970s-style food advertisements. The site is now completely inaccessible.
No official reason has been given for the site’s shutdown. There is no confirmation that Take-Two Interactive or Rockstar Games have issued legal demands to the developers. However, intervention by the rights holders remains a possibility; Take-Two has previously succeeded in shutting down other unofficial projects involving the porting of GTA games. Notably, the company previously forced the closure of a similar browser-based project based on *GTA: Vice City*.
The release of the new Grand Theft Auto VI installment is scheduled for November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. The developers have not yet said anything about a PC version, so some players are pinning their hopes on tech enthusiasts who might come up with a solution using emulators.
