Swedish furniture manufacturer IKEA has now also ventured into creating mods for Bethesda Game Studios’ hit fantasy RPG *The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim*. The resulting collaboration was predictably absurd.
An official mod titled *Kallax Storageborn* adds a sentient shelving unit named Kallax to the game as a companion. Most notably, the unit is voiced by Matt Berry, star of the series *What We Do in the Shadows*.
The mod is available for free via the Skyrim Creations system on Xbox and PC. The quest triggers when the player becomes over-encumbered. The Dragonborn is sent to an ancient dungeon to gather parts for the mysterious Kallax. Once assembled—and after obtaining a magical hex key—the unit comes to life and begins speaking to the player in Berry’s booming voice.
Kallax is more than just a walking IKEA advertisement. He can accompany the player on adventures and store excess loot, with items actually appearing on the shelves within the game world. The mod also adds a new Shout that allows the player to summon the unit at any time—by having the Dragonborn shout “IKEA!”
The mod includes a full storyline centered on Kallax and his mysterious past, in which players help him recover family heirlooms and lost memories. It features two IKEA-themed dungeons, a golem boss fight, and new gear, including a hex-key weapon and a “Meatball Helmet.”
The release of *Kallax Storageborn* was accompanied by a humorous gameplay trailer on the UK IKEA division’s YouTube channel. The mod is available for free in Bethesda’s Creations store. *The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim* debuted in November 2011 on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. Since then, the game has been ported to all modern platforms and has sold over 65 million copies.
