‘Sponge Break’ Coming To Steam On July 30th For Under $8

Sponge Break, a co-op action game from Goose Byte, launches on Steam on July 30th for $7.99. Players control sponges on a physical raft with up to four other players.

Sponge Break follows sponges who want to break free from the tyranny of the kitchen sink. To escape, they use a raft that’s held together by a thread. To keep the flimsy craft safe from the river, fire, beavers, and other dangers, they must work together as a team.

The developers list the following features of Sponge Break:

  • Seamless co-op for 2-4 players—you can drop in and out mid-race.
  • Single-player support.
  • Physics-based raft behavior.
  • Proximity voice chat.
  • Over 100 unlockable cosmetic items, including hats and emotes.
  • Several diverse biomes—from sewers to abandoned factories.

At $7.99, Sponge Break is in a price range where the risk is minimal, and co-op groups will pick it up impulsively. Raft physics and nearby voice chat aren’t just features on a list, but truly functional mechanics. The main question is whether the biome variety will be sufficient for a full playthrough, but that’s what the first week after release is for.
