Creative Assembly and SEGA have shared new details about Total War: Warhammer 40,000.
The strategy game will receive active support after its release: the company itself considers the project a kind of game-as-a-service.
As a reminder, in its May financial report, Sega announced the closure of its ambitious “Super Game” initiative and a reduction in investment in games-as-a-service following the setbacks of recent years.
In a recent interview with the Japanese publication Nikkei, Sega CEO Shuji Utsumi stated that despite the reduced support, the company continues to develop a number of games-as-a-service.
Specifically, Utsumi mentioned the free-to-play games Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis, Sega Football Club Champions 2026, Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage, and the premium Total War: Warhammer 40,000.
Utsumi believes Total War: Warhammer 40,000 is a service-based game because, after its release, Sega “plans to continually expand the game world,” as the company does with service-based games.
Players will lead one of the legendary factions (Space Marines, Orks, Eldar, Imperial Guard), capture planets, decide the fate of worlds, and use apocalyptic weapons.
Total War: Warhammer 40,000 is being developed for PC (Steam), PS5, Xbox Series X, and S. It promises extensive customization, large-scale, devastating tactical battles.
