In 2020, a prototype of the never-released Nintendo PlayStation gaming console sold for $360,000. Now, a gamepad for the device has sold for $35,000 at Heritage Auctions. That’s a staggering amount for an item that looks like a Super Nintendo controller but has Sony and PlayStation logos on the body.
The device is designed using the familiar Super Nintendo controller body, but features the signature Sony PlayStation lettering in dark gray on the front and the same color Sony PlayStation Controller lettering on the back. Auction experts believe the controller is one of the last remaining 200 original units, most of which were destroyed.
The historical “relic” was sold for a whopping $35,000. In February 2020, the full-fledged version of the Nintendo PlayStation console was put up for auction for $350,000, and the final price in March was $360,000.
