Publisher Kwalee and Dutch studio Galaxy Grove (Station to Station), still developing the voxel-based city-building strategy Town to City in Early Access, have announced a new collaboration.
The project is called Steam to Electric and is a voxel-based railway network management simulator. The announcement was accompanied by a one-minute gameplay trailer.
The project challenges players to build their own transport empire, from the era of steam locomotives to electric trains. Players will plot routes, transport passengers and cargo, manage signals, and develop production chains. The world will respond to their actions: small settlements will grow into large cities, and stations will become hubs of infrastructure.
The game will feature unusual experimental trains, inspired by real-life historical designs. According to game director Joost van Dongen, the team wants to pay tribute to the most daring engineering ideas of the past.
The developers claim that Steam to Electric is easy for beginners to get up to speed with, but an effective railway network will require precise calculations and smart investments. The game also features a sandbox mode.
Steam to Electric is expected to be released exclusively on Steam before the end of 2026. Meanwhile, Town to City is scheduled to leave Early Access (also on Steam) in the second quarter of 2026.
