The cult interactive horror film Until Dawn from Supermassive Games will finally receive a sequel 12 years after its original release, but this time from different developers.
Sony Interactive Entertainment’s UK-based studio Firesprite (Horizon, Call of the Mountain, The Persistence) unveiled Until Dawn 2 at its June State of Play event. An announcement trailer is included.
The new game will not be a direct sequel to the Blackwood Mountain story. Instead, the developers at Firesprite have prepared a standalone story with a new cast and a completely different location. The events will center on a team of ghost hunters who run a popular paranormal channel. Until recently, their investigations were merely staged for viewers, but their latest expedition to an abandoned tropical island turns into a true nightmare.
The trailer showcased the atmosphere of the mysterious island, the tense relationships between the characters, and the series’ classic elements of psychological horror. Judging by the project description, the system of choices and consequences will once again play a key role. The developers promise that even minor decisions can lead to unexpected plot twists thanks to the butterfly effect.
A separate surprise was the return of the enigmatic Dr. Hill, played by Peter Stormare. His appearance in the debut trailer hints at a connection between the new story and the original game, although details are currently being kept under wraps.
Until Dawn 2 will be released in 2027 on PS5. It promises more meaningful relationships between team members than ever before, unforeseen consequences, and unforgettable moments. Firesprite will share new details and footage from the game in the coming months.
