Publisher Sega and developers from the British studio Creative Assembly have announced ‘Total War: Shogun 2 Complete Edition’—a comprehensive edition of their grand strategy game with a Japanese setting, originally released 15 years ago.
The complete edition of Total War: Shogun 2 will include all expansions (most notably ‘Rise of the Samurai’ and ‘Fall of the Samurai’) as well as additional enhancements:
- Improved graphics, lighting, shadows, and textures;
- UI scaling for 1440p and 4K resolutions;
- Modernized controls;
- Full text and voice localization in Japanese and Chinese;
- Over 50 new playable minor factions;
- Integrated mod support via Mod.io;
- 64-bit system support, and much more.
The base version of ‘Total War: Shogun 2’ will be removed from sale on Steam starting September 28; the strategy game and its expansions will become part of the ‘Complete Edition’.
However, existing owners of ‘Total War: Shogun 2’ on Steam will be able to continue playing. Moreover, they will receive the released expansions for free and can upgrade to the complete edition at a 75% discount for a limited time.
As a reminder, the strategy game depicts the conflict between factions loyal to the Shogun and the Emperor in a fractured 16th-century Japan. The expansions, meanwhile, cover earlier and later periods—including relations with the West, the development of firearms, and the decline of samurai traditions.
Players will manage their own faction and family, engage in diplomacy, and fight battles in real time.
Total War: Shogun 2 Complete Edition will be released on October 13 for PC (Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store). It will cost $40, but owners of the original game can upgrade to the complete edition for $10 (only until November 12).
