Rockstar Games announced the next major update for Grand Theft Auto Online. Players will be able to explore new content.
As a reminder, Rockstar Games sold the GTA V update for current-generation consoles at its March 2022 release: the game cost $10 on PS5 for the first three months (then $40), and $20 ($40) on Xbox Series X and S.
As it became known, starting June 18, 2026, all owners of the digital edition of GTA V on PS4 and Xbox One will be able to upgrade their game to the PS5, Xbox Series X, and S versions completely free.
Compared to the previous-generation version of GTA V on PS5, Xbox Series X and S offer improved graphics and ray tracing, support for 60 frames per second and 4K resolution, faster loading times, and other enhancements.
GTA V PC users received updates from current-generation consoles last spring, also free of charge. The update split the game into two editions: the classic (Legacy) and the new (Enhanced).
Rockstar also announced that starting June 18, owners of any version of Grand Theft Auto V for PS4 or the digital version for Xbox One will be able to upgrade to the enhanced versions for PS5 or Xbox Series X|S for free.
