AMD Promises Gamers’ Security Amid DRAM Shortage

Gaming
AMD is committed to making its Radeon graphics cards affordable to everyday consumers, not just wealthy enthusiasts. With graphics card prices already spiraling out of control due to the DRAM shortage, Ryzen and Radeon VP and GM David McAfee stated in a recent interview with Gizmodo that AMD intends to keep price increases within reasonable limits. According to McAfee, AMD has built long-term relationships with DRAM suppliers to ensure a stable supply of memory for Radeon graphics cards. The company also continues to work with its AIC partners to maintain competitive prices, but the current shortage makes it increasingly difficult to fully contain cost increases. Meanwhile, prices for Nvidia GeForce RTX 50-series (Blackwell) graphics cards have already skyrocketed, a situation that coul...

AMD NTBC Technology To Reduce Weight Of Games By 70%

Gaming
AMD has announced the development of a new texture compression method called NTBC (Neural Texture Block Compression), which uses artificial intelligence. AMD NTBC technology solves the problem through compression using neural networks - it is partially compatible with texture compression algorithms used today (Block Compression, BC). “It has been designed to be compatible with existing BC formats, namely BC1 and BC4, with a reduced footprint and can be used as a replacement for existing graphics processes. <..> We have shown that NTBC can achieve better compression ratios than standard BC for both approaches, while still generating textures of reasonable quality. However, there is a trade-off between quality and compression ratio for the aggressive and conservative approaches -...
